The Oscar winner will play the antagonist in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel film The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, according to the film’s official Instagram on Monday. Davis was cast as Dr. Volumnia Gaul, the head gamemaker for the tenth annual Hunger Games.

Songbirds and Snakes stars Rachel Zegler as District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow (played by Donald Sutherland in the Hunger Games films), Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, Hunter Schafer, and Josh Andrés Rivera.

Davis’ casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Francis Lawrence, who directed the last three Hunger Games films, told THR of Davis’ character, “Dr. Gaul is as cruel as she is creative and as fearsome as she is formidable. Snow’s savvy as a political operator develops in no small part due to his experiences with her as the games’ most commanding figure.”
