A United States Army sergeant first class is being investigated after disturbing video emerged of him chastising and putting his hands on a young black man he didn’t believe lived in their South Carolina community.

Jonathan Pentland, 42, was immediately identified after a video of his confrontation with the young man went viral on social media. The incident occurred at the Lakes at Barony Place, a gated community in Richland County’s Summit subdivision.

Since at least 2019, Pentland has been a drill sergeant at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, according to photos. Brig. Gen. Milford Beagle, Jr., the Commanding General of Fort Jackson, announced on Twitter that the footage would be investigated.
