After other teachers alleged he used the n-word in front of elementary students, Arlington ISD fired a substitute teacher.

Swift Elementary in Arlington was the location of the incident on Friday.

Several parents have expressed shock after learning of an incident involving a sixth-grade student and a substitute instructor.

One mother, who did not want her name used by FOX 4, said her kid told her after school on Friday. She claims the youngster was not in the classroom during the interaction but told her what his classmates saw.

“’They had a substitute today, and guess what he said?’ And I said, ‘Well, what did he say?’ ‘Well, he said n-i--*-r’ And I said, ‘What?!’” I exclaimed; mother stated.

Off-camera, FOX 4 spoke with a Swift Elementary school teacher who similarly did not want her identity used. She stated she was in the hall Friday afternoon when she heard a ruckus from a neighboring classroom.

The teacher stated that she entered the substitute’s classroom and inquired as to what had occurred. And her account is identical to the one communicated to the mother.

After hearing from the students, the teacher who stepped in to intercede says she addressed the substitute, who she says then stated, “yes, I said n***er, and I’ll say it again.

According to Arlington ISD, the teacher returned to Swift Elementary on Monday. The district says it received an email complaint from a parent on Monday and launched an inquiry.

In a statement, the district says it “confirmed that inappropriate language was used, and the substitute was terminated. The district does not condone the use of any offensive, derogatory or inappropriate language in educational learning environments.”

The district did not comment on the substitute’s job history or whether or not any accusations had previously been lodged against him.
