Brittney Griner was arrested in February for allegedly having hashish oil vape cartridges in a Moscow airport. The US government updated the situation this week.

According to ESPN’s T.J. Quinn, the US government now believes Griner is being wrongfully detailed by Russia.

It’s unclear what prompted the US government’s radical change. Officials will try to negotiate Griner’s release rather than let Russia’s legal system play out.

Also, WNBA players and supporters in Congress will be able to speak freely about the situation.
