A woman from Covington is in jail after police say she shot her husband during an argument.

Joselyn Yates was identified as the accused shooter by investigators. She is accused of shooting her husband twice.

Officers responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of S. College Street around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to Covington Police.

According to neighbors, the couple had recently separated, and the victim attempted to make amends with his wife, but an argument ensued, resulting in gunfire erupting in the neighborhood.

Officers discovered a shooting victim in the street who had attempted to flee a residence after being shot twice at the intersection of S. College and James Streets.

Herbert Yates, 33, was identified as the victim and was transported to Regional One in stable condition.

Detectives later confirmed that the shooting occurred at Yates’ home, and that the victim fled in his semi-truck after an argument with his wife and being shot multiple times.

Yates is now facing multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, after Covington Police recovered a handgun at the scene. While the victim is expected to recover, the aftermath of the shooting will be felt.

A search of the house revealed that the alleged shooter, Joselyn Yates, 32, fled the scene in a blue Jeep. According to witnesses, Joselyn was possibly on her way to Shelby County.

To find Joselyn and the vehicle, detectives collaborated with Shelby County and other Tipton County agencies.

According to investigators, Joselyn turned herself in to CPD detectives on Sunday night and did admit to shooting her husband during an argument.

Joselyn faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic assault, and possession of a firearm while committing a dangerous felony.

She is still being held at the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office jail while she awaits her arraignment in Tipton County court.
