A wife was convicted guilty of murdering her husband by pouring boiling water laced with sugar over him while he was sleep at their house.
Corinna Smith, 59, blended the mixture with three sacks of sugar, leaving 80-year-old Michael Baines with 36% burns on his body at their home in Wirral, Cheshire.
On the day of the tragedy, Smith went home and loaded a pail with boiling water from her garden, then mixed it with roughly 7 pounds of sugar.
She dumped the liquid over Mr Baines’ arms and body as he was sleeping in bed and then left the premises.
She then told a neighbor, ‘I think I killed him.’
Officers arrived at the location a short while afterwards. Mr Baines was found in bed, sobbing and in excruciating pain, with the flesh on his right arm and hand unraveling.
He was sent to the hospital and stayed stable for two weeks in the burns unit before succumbing to his injuries and died.
Smith was characterized as angry and bitter the day before the incident because she believed a rumor spreading about her husband was credible.
After a five-day trial, a jury found Smith guilty of murder at Chester Crown Court. On Friday, July 9th, she will be sentenced.
