Prosecutors said Thursday that a Houston woman took out two life insurance policies on her 6-year-old son before giving him lethal doses of medications and over-the-counter drugs that caused him terrifying hallucinations before he died.

Prosecutors with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office allege that Ashley Marks drugged her son multiple times in June.

According to court records, an autopsy determined the boy’s death was a homicide after toxic amounts of methamphetamine and cocaine, as well as various antihistamines, were discovered.

According to court documents, the boy’s grandfather told Houston authorities that after Marks gave her son medication, the boy began hallucinating and “believed there were bugs on his clothing,” and that his grandson “became scared of his hallucinations.”

According to court documents, investigators discovered that Ashley Marks had taken out two $50,000 life insurance policies for her son, with her as the sole heir. The policies were purchased about a month before the boy died. According to police, Marks is a licensed insurance agent.

Marks, 25, is  being held without bond after being charged with capital murder. Her attorney was not listed in court records.
