A Baltimore County day care owner who apparently shot her husband last week at a Washington, D.C. hotel over child molestation allegations was denied bond Friday morning.

According to CBS News, DC Magistrate Judge Sherry Trafford explained that the reason for the confrontation is not a component the court considers, and that Weems is a danger to the community.

The judge also expressed “great concern” about Weem’s capacity to “make rational decisions.”

Shanteari Weems is charged with multiple counts, including assault with intent to kill and possession of an unregistered firearm.

WJZ investigator Mike Hellgren, who attended the hearing, said she broke down in tears in court.

Police announced four days after Shanteari Weems shot her husband James that he faces various charges in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of at least three children at her daycare.

He is scheduled to appear in a Baltimore County court for a preliminary hearing next week.

According to Baltimore County Police, James Weems, a former cop who retired from the Baltimore Police Department in 2005, was the subject of an investigation earlier in the month after the allegations surfaced.

Shanteari Weems worked as a corrections officer before starting her daycare, which did serve 90 children and staffed 16 caregivers, according to her attorneys.
