A woman from Enid is accused of using racial slurs against a teen Little Caesars employee before slapping him across the face because the pizza shop was out of “crazy bread.”

Rachel Scheuerman faces charges after slapping a 17-year-old Little Caesars employee in Enid after she tried to order two pizzas and crazy bread, according to The Black Wall Street Times.

Ronald Skip Kelly, the employee’s attorney, stated after the 71-year-old drove her van up to the window. Scheuerman then began using racial slurs against his client.

“She proceeds to call him the ‘n-word,’” said Kelly. “She don’t just call him the ‘n-word.’ She prefaces with ‘you f-ing n-word.’”

Scheuerman then asked the teen, “Did that hurt you?” according to court documents. She got out of her van and slapped the teen across the face when he said “no.”

Scheuerman was charged with “malicious harassment based on race” two weeks later. Instead of being punished by up to 90 days in jail, as is the case with regular assault, this crime is punishable by up to a year in prison and/or a $1,000 fine.

Michael Fields, the Garfield County District Attorney, was unable to appear on camera. He did, however, tell the local news that Enid police were unable to apprehend Scheuerman because officers did not observe the misdemeanor with their own eyes. Field stated that Enid officers were required to refer the case to the DA so that prosecutors could perform their own interviews before obtaining an approved arrest warrant through the courts.

“They had the video. The Police Department had it. Little Caesar’s had it,” said Kelly. “How many people do you have to talk about when you see the person, that is now the defendant, doing everything that the victim said happened to him.”
