According to The Daily Times, two women were arrested attempting to pay with a counterfeit $1 million bill at a Tennessee Dollar General store earlier this month.

The women attempted to use the fake money to buy multiple gift cards, according to a dollar store employee in Marysville who reported it on April 5.

According to a report of the incident obtained by The Smoking Gun, officers responded before noon and spoke with one of the perpetrators, Amanda McCormick, who said she “received the one million dollar bill in the mail from a church, but could not provide the church information.” McCormick claimed she was spending all the money on care packages for people who are homeless.

The other female involved in the incident told authorities she had no knowledge McCormick had the fake bill and was just accompanying her.

The women were released without charge after being told not to return to the Dollar General. The bill was taken as evidence by the deputies.
