A woman from Kansas City is charged with first-degree murder after reportedly shooting and murdering her husband on August 31.

Melanie Biggins, 40, is also charged with armed criminal action in the fatal shooting of Etienne McEwan, 50, while he was sleeping.

At around 1 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Gillespie Place on reports of a shooting.

Officers found Biggins performing CPR on McEwan, who was unconscious in a pool of blood on the bed.

The death was initially classified as suspicious, but it was later changed to homicide by gunshot.

Investigators also found a pillow& blanket on the floor with a hole through it.

Police later found a handgun in another room with one spent shell casing in the cylinder.

Biggins admitted to detectives she bought the gun in July.

She also told police the couple had been married for nine years and she wanted a divorce.

While speaking with authorities she stated she wanted to get a divorce, but was not able to because of money problems. She also reportedly confessed that she had been having an affair for the last year.

According to KCTV, the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed McEwan was fatally shot in the back of the head.

It is unclear whether Biggins has entered a plea or has a lawyer who can speak on her behalf.
