Baltimore officials are advising citizens to boil water used for drinking or cooking after E. coli bacteria was found in some samples of West Baltimore’s water supply.

The city Department of Public Works released a series of tweets Monday notifying residents that the bacteria had indeed been discovered in parts of the city’s ninth council district, which includes the neighborhoods of Sandtown-Winchester and Harlem Park.

According to the Baltimore Sun, public works crews planned to distribute water in the region.

Contamination with E. coli can cause intestinal distress, with symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting.
