Estée Lauder executive vice president John Demsey has been fired after posting an offensive meme referencing the rapper Chingy, CNN reports.

According to a statement from Estée Lauder Companies on Monday, Demsey’s dismissal was due to his “recent Instagram posts, which do not reflect our values,” and that the post caused “widespread offense.”

He has been with the company for about 30 years and will be leaving “this week,” according to Estée Lauder (EL). There was no mention of a successor.

Last week, Demsey posted a spoof book cover based on the Sesame Street TV show that used the N-word with some letters replaced with asterisks on his Instagram account.

Apparently, the post was joking about Covid-19. Demsey removed the offensive post and apologized, claiming that he was “terrified and extremely humiliated,” adding that he had not read the “racist meme” before posting it.
