On Wednesday morning, police rescued a 13-year-old girl who had been kidnapped by another teen in what officials believe was a human trafficking scenario.
The incident happened just after 10:20 a.m. in Canton, Georgia, when officers from the Canton Police Department pulled over a stolen 2014 Dodge Caravan.
According to Fox 11 News, a young teen female was seen driving the car while using her mobile phone, and a younger girl was also witnessed. When pulled over, the teen driver was unable to produce a driver’s license or car registration.
Officers discovered 13 THC vape cartridges, 3 vape pens, a THC-laced candy patterned after Nerds Rope, and countless pieces of lingerie while searching the vehicle.
Officers were ultimately able to determine that the 16-year-old driver intended to transport the younger girl across state borders, leading them to believe human trafficking was taking place.
The 13-year-old was reunited with her family by police. In the meantime, her kidnapper was apprehended, booked at the Regional Youth Detention Center, and charged with a variety of offenses, including trafficking in persons for labor or sexual servitude, kidnapping, providing a false name, address, or date of birth, theft by receiving stolen property, unlawful use of a wireless device, and drug possession.
Her name has not been made public because she is a minor.
