At least 19 children were injured Thursday when an SUV slammed into a California preschool, authorities said.

According to the Anderson Sheriff’s Department, the Suzuki SUV veered off-road and pounded into the building at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The classroom contained a total of 19 children and two adults at the time of the collision.

According to the sheriff’s department, 14 of the children and one staff member were transported to the hospital.

According to USA Today, five of the children were rushed to the hospital by their parents.

The department’s Drug Recognition Expert determined that the driver was “impaired” at the time of the collision.

On Thursday night, the extent of the children’s injuries remained unknown. The sheriff’s office, on the other hand, stated in a statement that all of the injured are expected to survive.
