According to D’Iberville Police, a man called 911 Wednesday night after his gun discharged unexpectedly while he was putting it away.

Soon after responding to the 911 call, D’Iberville Police officers discovered that the projectile had went into an adjacent apartment, striking and killing 23-year-old Stayvia Leone Hood, who was pregnant at the time.

Around 6:30 p.m., the incident occurred at the Landmark Apartments, located at 11059 Lamey Bridge Road.

According to police, Eric Joseph Adams, 35, who allegedly fired the gun, was arrested on a charge of manslaughter-culpable negligence.
