According to authorities, a Texas mother who claimed her 3-year-old son was shot & killed in a road rage shooting has been booked on a child endangerment charge.

According to a Dallas police affidavit, Lacravivonne Monique Washington, 26, had a firearm in her SUV, where it was exposed to her unrestrained children ages 2-4.

The investigation started on Monday, when Washington took her son Jalexus Washington to Medical City of Dallas with a gunshot to the head. The child died, and his mother informed authorities that he was shot in a road rage incident by an unidentified individual.

Authorities found no evidence of a road rage shooting at the mother’s claimed location. They did, however, discover a revolver in the glove compartment of Washington’s suv, which lacked child restraints, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Washington told officers in a follow-up interview that her kids were trying to climb and forth from the back seat to the front when she heard 2 gunshots and discovered her son injured.

The child had powder burns surrounding his wound, according to an autopsy. According to the affidavit, this suggested that he was shot at point blank range, ruling out a road rage shooting.

If convicted, Washington could face up to two years in prison. She was being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 bond on Thursday. According to court documents, she does not have a counsel.
