Chinatown slaying suspect faces life without parole in stabbing death

On Wednesday, Assamad Nash, the 25-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing Christina Yuna Lee, 35, last month, was indicted on multiple felony charges without hate crime enhancements.

Nash was arrested shortly after the incident, which occurred on February 13 inside Lee’s apartment in Manhattan’s Chinatown. This was the repeat offender’s eighth arrest since May 2021.

Nash can be seen on surveillance video following Lee into her apartment building at 111 Chrystie St. Neighbors soon heard Lee “calling for help” and pleading with someone to call 911 “over and over and over again.” The authorities arrived around 4:35 a.m. and discovered Lee in her bathtub “bleeding from multiple wounds to her body.”

Nash was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and a sexually motivated felony. Through his attorney, he entered a not guilty plea.

According to court documents, Nash tried to claim to be a target as well. He allegedly told police that he was trying to protect Lee and that the blame was on a “dude” who “stabbed us up.”

“I was trying to help this female getting hurt by other people. I was trying to help the lady,” Nash explained.

He allegedly attempted to flee the building via a fire escape but returned once he realized he was being watched by a police officer. He was eventually apprehended after authorities discovered him naked from the waist up hiding under Lee’s bed.
