According to authorities, a 5-month-old girl was gunned down Friday night in South Shore.

According to Chicago police, the shooting took place shortly after 6 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Shore Drive.

Cecilia Thomas was inside a vehicle when another car pulled up, and someone inside the second vehicle started firing, striking her in the head, according to authorities and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

According to a nearby small businessman, the girl’s dad pulled over near 71st Street and Crandon Avenue after she started crying.

According to officials, the infant was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital and died as a result of her injuries.

Aman in a different vehicle was shot near his eye. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was reported to be in good condition.

Immediately after the shooting, at least a dozen members of the girl’s family gathered outside Comer.

“All we heard was baby got shot in the car,” said one relative, who declined to give their name.

“She got shot in the head,” a woman started yelling at an officer near the hospital’s emergency room entry.

“I hope you catch whoever did this,” a woman sobbed into her phone. “Took that damn baby’s life.”

A nurse at Comer observed paramedics transporting the child for treatment.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my 61 years,” said Jackie, the nurse who declined to give her last name. Two of the nurse’s children were killed by gunfire, and a third was paralyzed.

Ja’Mal Green, a mayoral candidate in Chicago, has offered a $5,000 reward in this case.
