According to Butler County Coroner Wayne Garlock, nine youngsters and one adult were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 65 in Butler County, Alabama, over the weekend.

According to Garlock, eight of the children killed, age ranging from four to seventeen, were in a van from the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch. According to the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches, the charity that runs the Tallapoosa County girls ranch and others around the state, the youth ranch provides a home for neglected or mistreated school kids.

According to Garlock, a 29-year-old father and his 9-month-old daughter were also killed in another vehicle.

According to Garlock, the collision occurred on I-65 northbound at mile marker 138 on Saturday afternoon during rains that swept over the state. After making landfall in northeastern Louisiana early Saturday, a tropical depression classified as Tropical Storm Claudette dropped severe precipitation across the Southeast.
