A $1,000 reward has been given to an Indiana boy for returning money found beneath the floor mats of his family’s used automobile.
Landon Melvin was cleaning his father’s car, a Chevy Suburban purchased in September, when he discovered a parcel under the floor mats. He told his father, Michael Melvin, who believed it was just documents. Once the two opened the package, they discovered it contained checks and $5,000 in cold cash.
Melvin said they never considered taking the money, which belonged to a South Carolina couple. The family had travelled to Florida for a trip in 2019 and had forgotten where they had stored the cash.
The cash’s owners would only accept the money back if Landon was compensated $1,000 for his great work.
