A Florida educator is facing felony charges after authorities say she sent explicit texts to a student.
Julie Hoover, 38, has been charged with soliciting or engaging in sex with a student as an authority figure. Hoover taught at Point of Grace Christian School in Perry, Fla., where the alleged victim was an 18-year-old senior.
According to a WCTV arrest report, the student’s mom notified authorities on June 2 after discovering sexual messages between Hoover and her child. According to the mom, Hoover was allegedly attempting to plan for the student to creep into her home while her husband was at work.
Investigators believe Hoover and the student exchanged messages in March and April 2022. Hoover taught at least one class to the student.
Hoover, a St. Leo University graduate, had been a math teacher at the school since 2018. According to her LinkedIn past employment, she had worked as a finance director at the Boys & Girls Clubs in addition to being a teacher.
PEOPLE has confirmed that Hoover has been released on a $15,000 bond. She has not yet entered a plea, and court records do not show an attorney authorized to speak on her behalf.
