According to the Houston Police Department, a man was shot in the head during a shootout at an Airbnb party. The shooting took place around 10:46 p.m. Sunday.
According to investigators, it all started with a high school graduation party within the Airbnb, which had been made public on social media.
When a dark-colored SUV decided to drive by and shot into the crowd, the party’s attendees spewed out onto the road.
The shootout began when someone in the crowd fired back. Because numerous various types of ammunition were retrieved, police believe there were multiple shooters.
The only person injured in the shooting was the victim, a man in his early twenties. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.
At this time, police do not have an intent or an indepth description of the accused person. Video surveillance shows the SUV that eyewitness accounts described fleeing the scene after the gunbattle.
Investigators have detained one person to determine his role.
According to a spokesperson for Airbnb, they condemn the gun violence and issued the following statement:
“Our policies ban both parties and “party houses”, and we join the community in condemning this criminal gun violence. Our Safety team is actively investigating, and we also stand ready to support the Houston Police Department.”
The Airbnb spokesperson said the address has only had a few reservations in recent months.
Airbnb said it hasn’t received any reports of parties at that location, and the host bans them.
As an investigation continues, Airbnb has banned the guest and delisted the property.
