FAccording to the US Attorney’s Office, a Flint rap artist has now been charged in a murder-for-hire plot, reportedly hiring a man to murder a Sterling Heights woman for $10,000 in cash.
Clifton E. Terry, III, a.k.a. “Cliff Mac,” 31, of Flint, was charged with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire resulting in personal injury, murder-for-hire resulting in personal injury, and using a firearm during and in relation to a violent crime by a federal grand jury.
The grand jury had initially indicted Andre D. Sims, 25, of Grand Rapids, on March 16 for his job in the murder-for-hire plot with Terry, according to a press release issued by the US Attorney’s Office on Thursday, Aug. 25.
According to the indictment, Terry offered Sims $10,000 to murder a woman in Sterling Heights.
Sims managed to travel from Grand Rapids to Flint on November 27, 2020, to acquire a vehicle. He decided to drive to the victim’s residence in Sterling Heights early the following morning, parking across the street.
Sims confronted the woman’s car and shot seven to eight rounds at her after she left her residence several hours later.
The woman survived despite being shot several times. The victim’s home surveillance system recorded the shooting.
After the attack, Sims proceeded to drive to a nearby apartment building and left his vehicle. Terry then picked up Sims from the complex.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, Terry later offered to pay Sims $2,500 for the failed hit.
Terry is also charged with first-degree murder in a separate case in Genesee County Circuit Court for his alleged role in the death of Devaroe Davis on August 17, 2021. On September 16, District Judge David G. Guinn will conduct a preliminary examination in that case.
Sims was sentenced to life in prison recently after being convicted of murder in Kent County for the fatal shooting of a 65-year-old woman.
Terry faces up to twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted of conspiring to commit murder-for-hire and committing murder-for-hire resulting in personal injury, according to authorities.
