Another arrest has been made in connection with a shootout in Union County, NC in 2021 that claimed the lives of a beloved teacher and another man.

Santana Monique Stewart, 43, was arrested and charged with obstructing the administration of justice in March. She is the wife of Steven Alexander Stewart, who has already been charged in connection with the shooting. Steven is also the brother-in-law of Barney Harris, the Union Academy Spanish teacher and coach who was killed in the shootout, according to WSOC-TV.

Channel 9 learned on April 8, 2021, that Harris and Steven Stewart ended up going to a trailer park on Wyatt Road in Green Level, North Carolina in order to steal drugs and money from the Sinaloa Cartel’s stash house.

According to detectives, Harris and Steven Stewart broke into a trailer and were confronted by Alonso Beltran Lara, 18, an alleged cartel member. According to deputies, the men interrogated Lara about the stash and when he refused to provide the answers they desired, they shot him in the head.

According to investigators, after the pair murdered Lara, other cartel members arrived, and Harris was killed in the ensuing gunfight.
