Authorities Locate 3 Pounds Of Cocaine In A Woman's Shoes At Atlanta Airport

According to US Customs and Border Protection, a Georgia woman was apprehended attempting to smuggle $40,000 in cocaine in numerous pairs of shoes through the Atlanta airport.

Customs officers detained the 21-year-old after she landed on a flight from Jamaica over the weekend according to a statement issued by the agency on Monday. Her bags were searched, and seven pairs of shoes were discovered to have a powdery white substance hidden in their soles, according to NBC.

According to the agency, the substance tested positive for cocaine. The drug was recovered in the amount of 3 pounds (1.3 kilograms).

According to ABC, CBP screens arriving foreign passengers and cargo for drugs, arms, and other restricted or banned goods at ports of entry throughout the United States.

According to the CBP, on an average day, authorities seize 3,677 pounds of drugs from people traveling around the country.
