A Durham woman who has collaborated as a backup singer for famous musicians is still in the hospital after being hit in the neck by a stray bullet while watching tv at her apartment in Durham in April.

The woman, identified only as “Grace” by her family, was shot at Lakemoor Apartments around 10 p.m. on April 26 during a shootout.

According to CBS 17, two groups started firing at each other in the parking area of the apartment building that evening.

Several bullets were fired into various apartment units and vehicles during the shootout, which eyewitness accounts said lasted a few minutes. One person was fatally shot. Grace was one of two people injured.

Grace has collaborated with well-known artists such as Mary J. Blige and provided backing vocals for R&B music groups in the 1980s and 1990s.

Grace’s relatives has been raising funds to pay for her medical expenses and is calling for action in response to the latest shooting incidents. GoFundMe
