Legendary rapper, Biz Markie has died as a result of diabetes complications that he had been battling for over a year, reported TMZ.
According to a family member, Biz died at 6:25 p.m. Friday night at a Baltimore hospital. His wife, Tara Hall, is said to have held his hand as he took his last breath and the nursing team was there to comfort Biz’s family, telling them how courageous he was during his battle.
Biz was hospitalized last summer for a condition related to his Type II Diabetes, according to his rep. “He is receiving the best care from an amazing team of medical professionals and we remain positive about the outcome,” the spokesman stated to TMZ at the time.
Biz, who was born in Harlem, rose to prominence in 1989 when his track “Just a Friend” became a Top 40 success in various countries and went platinum. Afterwards, when the rapper’s career took off, he acted, did comedy, DJ’d, and composed music.
