According to authorities, a Florida suspect is facing multiple charges after reportedly firing at two St. Petersburg cops over the weekend, nearly hitting one of them in the head.

Officers Ronald McKenzie and Pavel Kuznetsov were searching for the suspect, Austin Kingos, 23, who officials said had probable cause for his apprehension on a misdemeanor charge of violating a stalking order.

Officers arrived in a St. Petersburg neighborhood and saw a white van with Kingos inside.

“Officer McKenzie asked him for identification. Kingos did not immediately produce any ID and he was fidgeting around, and Officer McKenzie was concerned because of the movements and he couldn’t see Kingos’ hands,” Sheriff Gualtieri described. “He opened the driver’s side of the door, at which time Kingos turned and began to actively kick and resist Officer McKenzie.”

The struggle between Officer McKenzie and Kingos is captured on dashcam and body camera footage.

The gunshot entered the residence through a window and landed in a door, according to the sheriff. Although Kingos’ gun jammed, detectives assume he would have fired more bullets, according to Gualtieri.
