According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a security guard was shot during an armored truck robbery just outside a bank on the North Freeway on Friday, and the two gunmen were able to flee, KHOU reported.

Around 10:40 a.m., it happened at a bank in the 10300 block of the North Freeway.

According to HCSO Maj. Susan Cotter, the robbers ambushed the Brinks armored vehicle and pointed weapons at the security officers before fleeing with numerous cartridges of cash from an ATM.

One of the men opened fire and shot one of the guards in the arm. The guard was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was stable, according to Cotter.

As they fled, an off-duty University of Houston cop working security just outside of the bank fired shots at them. Authorities are unsure whether anyone was injured.

Shell casings were discovered near the ATM as well as a few yards away in the Walmart parking lot. The event was captured on surveillance tape, and the FBI is investigating the clip.

The suspects fled in a black Chevrolet Suburban, but it was unclear which way they went.
