Betty Wright, a supremely talented soul singer who popularized the phrase, “No pain, no gain,” has passed away. Her cause of death has not been revealed. She was 66.

Betty’s niece tweets are below, paying tribute to her aunt.

She rose to fame in 1971 when she was just 18 years old, with the hit song Clean Up Woman. The musician continued to release the popular tracks Tonight Is The Night, Shoorah Shoorah and Where Is The Love, the latter receiving a Grammy Award for best R&B song from her.
