A seventeen-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman who was found shot inside a partly submerged vehicle in Pompano Beach earlier in the week.

Ja ‘Kolbi Jacsaint was arrested Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

According to the BSO, Jacsaint is charged with premeditated murder, committing a first-degree felony with a firearm, and child neglect for allegedly endangering an infant when the victim’s vehicle crashed into a canal.

According to investigators, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, BSO received a phone call about a vehicle in a canal near Northwest Eighth Street and Northwest Tenth Avenue in Pompano Beach.

From the partially submerged Chevrolet Camaro, a female and a baby had been rescued. After being shot, the woman was later declared dead at the hospital.

The baby girl, whom relatives identified as the victim’s goddaughter, was reconnected with her mother.

Homicide detectives interviewed people and acquired search warrants for the victim’s and Jacsaint’s cell phones, as well as managed to gather other evidence.

According to investigators, Jacsaint was dating the victim in this case. According to police, Jcsaint told lies to them throughout his initial sworn affidavit about his exact location during the murder.

Jacsaint is currently incarcerated at the Broward Juvenile Detention Center.
