The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after five people were injured in a shooting outside a funeral home over the weekend, including a four-year-old girl.

A memorial service was being held at Sprowl Funeral & Cremation Care when a guy was dropped off near the funeral home and confronted a man sitting in another person’s car, according to authorities.

Then there was an argument, which resulted in gunfire.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered three people had been shot.

The first victim was a 16-year-old girl who was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and was in stable condition. A man in stable condition was also transported to St. Vincent Hospital, according to WTHR.

The third person, according to police, was a 4-year-old girl who was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital in critical condition. When police arrived, the mom was attempting to get the youngster into the car and to a medical facility. Medics arrived and took over, transporting the mother and child to the hospital together.

Then two more people separately walked into Methodist Hospital not long after the others who were injured were taken to area hospitals.

According to police, several of the victims were at the memorial service. However, police say the memorial service was not for anyone connected to any previous violent offenses, reported FOX59.

On Saturday, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett condemned the shooting, calling it a “cowardly act” and urging an end to “this cycle of violence.”
