Eric Thompson, 34, a suspect in the murder of Jon Tokuhara, was released on $1 million bail on Feb. 14.
Thompson was arrested for Murder in the Second Degree and Carrying or Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Separate Felony, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Police report shows Thompson was arrested Feb. 14. His first court appearance was set for Feb. 17.
Officers responded to a medical assist call on Jan. 13 around 8 a.m. Upon arrival, Tokuhara had died from traumatic injuries. They found a gunshot wound to the head on the deceased.
According to autopsy results released on Tuesday, Feb. 15, Tokuhara died of a gunshot wound to the head and was homicide.
During her marriage to Thompson, the suspect’s wife had an intimate relationship with Tokuhara between May and July of 2021.
One of Tokuhara’s patients on Jan. 12 — the day before his body was found — identified Thompson and his wife. The patient said the couple met in high school and married. The patient then introduced Thompson’s wife to Tokuhara for acupuncture treatment in 2019.
On Aug. 11, 2021, the patient spoke with Thompson’s wife, who admitted to having an affair. She didn’t say who it was or whether her husband knew. Tokuhara’s cellphone was used to look into this.
On Instagram, Tokuhara and Thompson’s wife exchanged explicit photos and videos, as well as talked about their intimate relationship and the fear of Thompson finding out.
A long-term relationship with Thompson’s wife seemed to be Tokuhara’s desire while she did not want to leave her husband. Thompson’s wife informed Tokuhara in July 2021 that they had to end their relationship. Their last Instagram direct messages were on July 23, 2021.
