According to Pennsylvania authorities, a 38-year-old mother was arrested on Monday, May 1, after her young boys were found in their beds with gunshot wounds to their heads.
The boys, ages 9 and 13, were discovered alive in the Upper Makefield home but are not expected to survive, according to Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub. According to the district attorney, they were rushed to a local hospital and are being kept alive so that their organs can be transplanted.
According to the district attorney, Trinh Nguyen, who fled after the shootings, is charged with two counts of murder. Weintraub said she was apprehended around 11:30 a.m. Monday when leaders at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church observed her vehicle parked in their lot.
The church officials contacted Upper Makefield Township authorities, who promptly arrested Nguyen outside the church without incident.
According to the district attorney, Nguyen also tried shooting her neighbor, but the gun did not go off. Nguyen was disarmed by a neighbor before fleeing in a Toyota Sienna.
Weintraub stated that police have “very strong leads” on a possible motive but did not elaborate.
“It’s a very difficult image to get out of my head,” Weintraub said of the boys’ discovery.
