A 6-year-old child and the family dog were killed by a mother in Kansas City on Tuesday night, according to police.
Late Tuesday night, the woman called police to say she was afraid someone was trying to harm her, reports KCTV. Police were informed by the woman that she believed she was being attacked by the devil. Officials say she hung up the phone after denying having any mental illness.
To conduct a welfare check, the police went to the residence, where they discovered blood near the front door. Police were able to hear a woman singing in the house. The woman sang louder and louder as they knocked.
In order to gain entry to the house, officers broke down the back door. Her legs and feet were covered in blood, and she was identified as Tasha Haefs, 35. Officers found the decapitated child’s body outside the kitchen.
A decapitated dog was also found in the basement, according to police.
Police say Haefs told them the victim was her biological child and confessed to killing him after she was confronted by detectives.
