Uprooted, a new docuseries from Discovery+ and NowThis, is about a 19-year-old Black man whose body was discovered hanging from a tree in the predominantly white suburb of Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1986.

The three-part series, which is currently streaming on Discovery+, revisits the tragedy and apparent gross mismanagement of the case, which was incorrectly ruled a suicide, according to the Warren family and witnesses to the scene of the crime.

The Warrens were informed by police and local officials that there had been no coroner’s report and that evidence had been damaged or lost.

As a result, while police and prosecutors claim the case has been re-investigated, changing the ruling is not possible absent the discovery of new evidence. The Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office has also declined to reopen the case.
