Five people were shot, one fatally, in Gainesville late Sunday, according to police. Around 10pm someone in a vehicle driving south on NE 17th Street opened fire on a group of people outside the store. According to police, five people were hit by bullets, and 23-year-old Tyeric Simmons died in the hospital.

23-year-old Tyeric Simmons’ grandmother spoke with the local media and stated, “I lost an angel, that’s what he was to me. He was my angel, my first-born grandson. He was a good boy.”

Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting and have described the victims as innocent people.
