About 40 cows managed to escape from a meatpacking plant in Pico Rivera on Tuesday night and started to run wild through the streets of the city for a little more than an hour, reportedly injuring a family. The deputies managed to round up the cows but were ineffective because they scattered throughout the neighborhood.

The herd escaped through a gate that was accidentally left open at Manning Beef. The cows went nearly a mile from the slaughterhouse, running through residential neighborhoods.

Authorities had the herd rounded up in a cul-de-sac, but the cattle took off and went through neighboring homes.

As of this morning, 38 of the 40 cows have been caught, but one is still missing.
