A man reportedly used a taxi as his getaway ride after robbing a bank, according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. 24-Year-Old Elijah Shelton is accused of robbing the Synovus Bank on Navarre Parkway Friday morning for $8k.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said that Shelton requested a cab from Johnny on the Spot Taxi service.

“Elijah Shelton, who after this will be referred to as ‘the genius,’ decides he wants to rob a bank in Santa Rosa County, normally, you grab a fast car so you can get away and everything. He calls a cab to his house.”

The Sheriff states that Johnson demanded cash after arriving in the bank. He exits with $8,300 and then gets the same cab to drop him off at his actual home.

Authorities say Johnson was apprehended quickly but the money has not been recovered. Johnson is sitting in the Okaloosa County jail on robbery charges.
