A Florida man accused of intentionally crashing into a state police cruiser told officers he did it because he wanted to go to jail.

According to a police report acquired by WPLG, Trooper Bernex Vincent was assigned to a construction detail on I-95 in Broward County. According to the police report, Vincent’s cruiser was parked in a lane blocked by orange cones and barricades with its emergency lights on.

WTVJ reported that Tate Turner is accused of driving a white Subaru and rear-ending the trooper’s vehicle.

Upon approaching Turner’s vehicle, Vincent allegedly remained silent for a few minutes before stating that he intentionally struck the trooper’s vehicle.

“He hesitated a little bit when he was asked and he paused, and he went ahead and said, ‘I intentionally did this. I wanted to go to jail,’” Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Indiana Miranda told WSVN.

In a police report acquired by WTVJ, troopers stated that Turner didn’t even appear to be inhibited in any way and denied consuming alcohol or drugs.

In their report, troopers stated, “(Turner) stated he saw the patrol vehicle and intentionally struck it with his vehicle.” WPLG reported that he stated he wanted to go to jail because he ‘felt he was already in jail’ WPLG reported that when officers asked Turner why he felt like he was already in jail, he replied, “It’s a combination of things.”

According to Broward County court records, Turner was taken into custody and faces felony charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
