A man was murdered and two women were injured Saturday evening in a shooting at a Virginia mall, police said.
Norfolk police were dispatched to MacArthur Center at approximately 6:25 p.m., according to a press release from the department. The women, who were shot in the ankles, were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to police chief Larry Boone, the gunfire was sparked by an argument over money, and he believes the male victim and suspect are related. Boone stated that he was unaware of any connection between the two women and the shooter or the victim.
The names of the victims were not immediately released.
Numerous roads in the area were closed while authorities investigated. Later Saturday evening, police shared photos of a suspect and a person of interest, pleading with the public for assistance in trying to identify them.
The shooting occurred on the same day as the funeral for Sierra Jenkins, a 25-year-old Virginian-Pilot reporter who was one of two people murdered less than two blocks from the shopping plaza in March. Jenkins was reportedly caught in the crossfire as she exited a bar.
