Although they aren’t essentially snakes or penises, researchers have verified that Florida is now home to the intrusive “penis snake.”

According to a Florida Museum of Natural History study, recent Dna evidence proves that legless amphibians caught in Miami’s Tamiami Canal two years ago are caecilians, also known as penis snakes or rubber eels (they aren’t eels).

“Very little is known about these animals in the wild,” Florida herpetologist Coleman Sheehy said of the member-evoking critter, which was discovered in the state two years ago. Officials had captured a 2-foot-long creature near Miami International Airport and placed it in confinement, where it starved to death.

This noodle-shaped creature hunts by using a pair of face tentacles to detect snails, lizards, and other prey. It is colloquially known as a “penis snake” due to its phallic countenance.

Despite reaching lengths of up to 5 feet, this creature does not present a hazard to humans.

Scientists are really not certain how the South American migrant got there in the first place, but they presume it was due to irresponsible owners releasing the species, which is the most common in the pet trade industry.
