KHOU reported that a Houston worker made a startling find in a family’s backyard BBQ pit on Tuesday, when they allegedly discovered a complete human skeleton in an area behind the family’s home on Peach Creek Drive.

Sgt. William Dunn of the Houston Police Department told KHOU, “We’re going to talk to the caller and ascertain what prompted them to look in the BBQ pit” It is now unknown whether they were able to contact the caller again; the Houston Police Department’s homicide division was unavailable for comment.

Dunn told KHOU that the remnants appear to indicate that a human corpse was burnt down to its skeleton “the barbecue pit doesn’t look too disturbed. So, it looks like it’s been a while.”

In addition, it is too soon to determine whose remains were in the pit or how they got there. The medical examiner of the county is conducting a forensic autopsy to ascertain the cause and date of death. Currently, authorities just consider this a death investigation.
