Tuesday, an elderly woman celebrating the high school graduation of her grandson was gunned down and two men were injured at a college in New Orleans, according to authorities and news stories.

WVUE reported, citing police, that shots were fired during an argument in the Xavier University of Louisiana parking area, close to the college’s convocation center in which the graduation ceremony for Morris Jeff High School had actually occurred.

Age and name of the deceased woman, believed to be a bystander, were not available immediately.

The two male victims were shot in the leg and shoulder, but their injuries were not life-threatening, according to Christopher Goodly, deputy superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department.

Three individuals were detained for questioning, but no charges had been revealed as of Tuesday afternoon’s early hours.

Witnesses told the media outlet that the brawl began following the commencement ceremony and that they heard five to twelve gunshots.

As police investigated the crime scene, a pistol was still in the parking lot and the window of an SUV was shattered, according to the Times-Picayune. An unidentified witness to the shooting told the newspaper that they heard approximately 20 shots.
