The Attorney General’s Office has published the body-worn camera footage from the fatal police-involved shooting on January 30 in Crofton.

Around 4 a.m., a mother called police to report that her adult son was assaulting her and refused to leave the 900 block of Danville Court. Officers were granted permission to enter the property and discovered her and her adult son confined in the room together.

Officers entered the room and commanded the son, identified as Dyonta Quarles, Jr., 20, on the floor.

He initially cooperated, but when officers approached to cuff him, he began to resist and was tased, but it had no impact.

Officer J. Ricci was hurt during the scuffle and eventually shot and killed Quarles.

According to Thomas Lester of the Maryland Office of Attorney General, it can take many months for a final report to be published in a case like this since investigators are awaiting additional information, such as autopsy reports.

Lester, on the other hand, believes it is critical to share the footage in order to be transparent with the community.

“We know the community want this, the agencies want this, to be able to release what happens and let the community be able see for themselves,” Lester said.
