Man Arrested After a Dead Body is Found in his Garbage Can

After a body suspected to be his missing girlfriend was discovered in his garbage can, a Kentucky man was arrested, authorities said.

John Meadows, 58, of Williamsburg, was arrested on Monday on charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence, WKYT news station confirmed.

The remains are suspected to belong to his 57-year-old girlfriend, Donna Lay, the authorities said.

Williamsburg Police Chief Wayne Bird said that they had secured a search warrant for his house, where a trained cadaver dog notified authorities to the location of the remains.

The medical examiner did not confirm the identity of the remains, but the autopsy concluded that the manner of death was a single gunshot wound to the head.

Officials believe Meadows had been living with the dead body for three weeks before the gruesome discovery.
