Investigators in Kitsap County believe that a man broke into a residence, murdered a couple, and crammed their bodies into a garbage can.

Deputies responding to a report of questionable circumstances said Thursday evening that they managed to make a “gruesome discovery” on an Olalla property.

At around 5:15 p.m., deputies were called to Shady Glen Avenue Southeast near Purdy Creek.

A woman had gone to check on her parents minutes before and found that somebody had broken into the residence. Inside, she discovered glass shards and blood.

She dialed 911 when she couldn’t find either of her mom and dad.

According to court papers, officers arrived and “observed what appeared to be a deceased body in a garbage can.” Authorities eventually discovered the dead bodies of Mina and Steven Shulz in the trash can.

Police believe the 51-year-old victims died as a result of gunshot wounds.

The couple’s bodies were turned over to the Kitsap County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies named Shaun D. Rose, 40, as a suspect on Saturday. They suspected he was dangerous and armed and was attempting to hide in Pierce County or the Tacoma area.

He was discovered on Sunday evening, and his arrest, which officers described as a battle, involved multiple agencies.

Rose was initially seen driving a white Buick in Mason County, but he later abandoned it and snatched another car in Pierce County before abandoning it in Tacoma.

He then went to a convenience store on South Tacoma Way and was arrested.

Rose will be booked into the Kitsap County Jail on a no-bail felony murder warrant, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.
