A woman in Pennsylvania has been charged with murdering her retired deputy sheriff husband and then torching his nude body on their back porch.
Evelyn Zigerelli-Henderson, 66, was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated arson, and arson in the death of her 84-year-old husband Carmen Henderson last Thursday, according to CBS21.
According to a charging documents, investigators found the gruesome scene after the wife, a fmr Dauphin County political candidate, called 911 to report that her husband of 30 years had set himself on fire.
When homicide detectives questioned Zigerelli-Henderson about her husband’s demise, she allegedly changed her narrative numerous times.
She originally claimed it was suicide, but later stated her husband inadvertently set himself on fire while smoking a cigar on their porch.
Officials said they discovered fly larvae in the victim’s mouth and nostrils while examining his body, implying he’d been dead for some time.
It was unclear when Henderson did die, and officials have not published his cause of death.
According to the complaint, Zigerelli-Henderson did admit to delaying her 911 call but couldn’t clarify why.
Authorities stated that the couple was in debt after the wife allegedly stated that she had spent all of their savings on vacation homes and extravagant activities such as day spas.
According to the complaint, Zigerelli-Henderson stated that they owed $40,000 on a new mortgage and that the sheriff’s office was making plans to take the property.
The wife also reportedly acknowledged that her husband, who retired as a Dauphin County chief deputy sheriff in 1995, had a $10,000 life insurance policy.
