Suspect arrested in D.C. in connection with attacks on homeless men that left two dead and three wounded in New York and the District of Columbia, according to WTOP.

According to a tweet from the D.C. police department, “the suspect is currently being interviewed at our Homicide Branch.”

Agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives’ Washington office arrested the man early Tuesday as he wandered near the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast, according to ATF spokeswoman Whitney Cruse.

According to an AFT source, the arrest occurred around 2:30 a.m., and the suspect was taken directly to the D.C. police department’s homicide branch.

According to WTOP, the man was not armed when he was apprehended.

“The suspect in the five (5) shooting incidents, including two (2) homicides of homeless men in Washington DC and New York City, has been arrested. Great teamwork on the part of the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department, the New York City Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The investigation remains active and ongoing,” the email shared with WTOP said.

Five men were attacked in total in the two cities. One died in Washington, D.C., and the other in New York.

Three of the shootings occurred earlier this month in Washington, D.C.
